  • KIC Literary Forum Poetry Meet -02 December 2017

    The KIC Literary Forum conducted one of its vibrant Poetry Meet on Saturday 02 December 2017 with a participation of around thirty poetry lovers. The highlight of the Programme was the awarding of prizes to the winners of the Harish Govind Memorial Prize 2017

    Harish Govind Memorial Poetry Prize 2017

    The Prize carries a cash prize, a medallion and a citation instituted by Poetry Chain and is awarded for a collection of poems by a Kerala based poet. The Poetry Chain is a poetry forum for Indian poets writing in English, founded by Sri Gopikrishnan Kottoor and mentored initially by the late Sri Ayyappa Panikkar.

    Mr. Jagatsimhan Nair was awarded the 2017 Harish Govind Memorial Poetry Prize for his collection

    Blue Sun and Blasé Rains published in 2014 by Authopress.

     

    The Harish Govind Memorial Poetry Prize 2017 was awarded by Director General KIC and former Ambassador Sri TP Sreenivasn at the J-3 Jawaharnagar.

     

    Mr Jagatsimhan’s  Volume comprises of 71 poems with diverse themes  in a variety of metrical  and poetic forms such as Tanka, free verse, limericks, Haiku, Tail Rhyme, Kyrielle, Clerihew, Quintain, Suzette etc. Mr. Jagatsimhan himself read out  a few of his most popular poems from the volume such as A Summer Evening, a Valentine Poem and Jungle by Night.

     

    Mr. S. Chandramohan’s volume of 49 poems Letters to Named Dhaka published by Desirepaths Publishers in 2016 was shortlisted for the Prize. Chandramohan the Dalit poet read out his crisp and incisive poems Salesgirls and Urmila at the award function. His poems of polemics, populism aimed at heckling his readers were refreshingly original and arresting.

     

    The event came to a close with a reading of poems by Gopikrishnan Kottur, founder, Poetry Chain, Murali Sivaramakrishnan and Neerada Suresh, Chairperson, Literary Forum KIC.
